MILTON ELTING HEBALD

1917 – 2015

Welcome to the Milton Elting Hebald website.

Had my grandfather been alive today he would give you a soft welcome with a heavy New York accent and then offer you a glass of Chianti. He would then launch into his favorite Shakespeare Sonnet, quote from James Joyce, Blake, Proust, or even sing you a parlor song from his boyhood. People who had the chance to meet or form strong friendships with my grandfather were immediately entranced by him and his brilliance as well as his warmth. Perhaps it is alluring to be in the presence of an artist, in particular a Master Sculptor, because he saw the world through different eyes and always three dimensional if not many more.   As one of two of his grandchildren, he is Grandpa with the rough large hands with dark lines of clay and clean finger nails who could take up a piece of clay and create any type of figure within an instant, like magician who could make ribbons of scarves appear out of nowhere or make balloon animals.

Here, you will learn about Milton Elting Hebald, an American Master Sculptor, his life, his work, his legacy in public art, and purchasing a piece of sculpture.
